Become a Judge!

The Meridian Awards rely on dedicated readers and literary professionals to recognize and celebrate outstanding independent authors. Our judging process has two stages, each with a distinct role. Before applying, please choose which judging position best fits your experience, availability, and interests.

Both roles are vital to the success and credibility of the awards. Whether you enjoy discovering new voices or making final award decisions, there is a place for you on our judging team.

Applications close October 15, 2026.

Preliminary Judges

Preliminary Judges form the first round of evaluation. They read submitted entries, score them, and determine which works advance to finalist status.

This role has a larger reading workload and is ideal for readers, reviewers, educators, and authors who enjoy discovering new writing and helping standout works rise to the top.

If you love reading widely and supporting emerging authors, this role is for you.

Finalist Judges

Finalist Judges evaluate the top-scoring entries selected in the preliminary round and determine category winners.

This role is highly selective and reserved for individuals with strong literary, editorial, or publishing experience. The reading workload is smaller, but the responsibility is greater, as Finalist Judges make the final award decisions.

If you have professional experience in writing, editing, reviewing, or book design and want to help choose the winners, this role is for you.
